The College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Pookode, was formally inaugurated on 11 December 2004. The campus is sprawled over 100 acres in the scenic hilly terrain of Wayanad in Kerala, India. The College offers Under Graduate (BVSc & AH), Post Graduate (MVSc) and Doctoral (PhD) Programmes in Veterinary & Animal Sciences. The resources at COVAS Pookode include: Laboratories, Library, Clinical training, Farm training, Ambulatory clinic, Work experience/ enterpreunership, Student projects, Topic presentations & discussions and Study tours.

Mandate:

• Impart quality veterinary education as stipulated by the VCI
• Mould and update qualified Veterinarians and supporting staff
• Train the professionals in modern/emerging fields such as biotechnology, bioinformatics and molecular research
• To undertake need based problem solving research in veterinary and allied sciences
• Disseminate technical knowledge to the rural via technology innovation for the uplift of the northern backward districts
• Function as a referral center in the area of animal production, disease diagnosis and health care
• Conservation and maintenance of indigenous/exotic breeds of livestock and poultry in the agro-climatic conditions of Wayanad
