The Centre for Livestock Development and Policy Research (CLPR) had been set up as autonomous centre of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) at Thiruvananthapuram in June 2013 based on the decisions of Board of Management held on 26.11.2012. The long term goal of CLPR is to develop it as an international “Centre of Excellence” in theory informed empirical research capacity creation and knowledge dissemination on the socio-economic dimensions of livestock development. The Centre will be developed as a multi-disciplinary institute for knowledge production and would work in close collaboration with other scientific, technological and extension departments of the University. It is envisaged that the research and capacity creation activities undertaken by CLPR would take in to account not only the sector specific problems, but also its close linkage with the rest of the economy. While, the research undertaken will give more attention in addressing the problems faced by the State of Kerala, it would also give considerable attention to study the problems of development in other regions of the Country and also comparative studies of India with other developing Countries in Asia. The objectives of the Centre are briefly outlined as follows:
