15 Food security, food safety and trade related issues are emerging as areas of priority in Livestock sector. As part of transfer of technology, research findings including innovations, (technologies, ideas, practices) must be disseminated among farming community in appropriate forms at faster pace to adopt scientific farming practices. One of the most important modes of reaching farmers is through media like print and electronic. Scientific ideas developed by the scientists needs to treated in a manner that is understandable, attractive and meaningful for the reader, listener or viewer. This involves certain skills. Understanding these skills will help scientists in presenting their thoughts in a manner appropriate to the audience. In order to achieve the above envisaged objectives, the faculty members and research Scholars have to be made aware of the recent trends in farm journalism.
All dailies in the state are regularly publishing half-one page per week for farm features in the state. Moreover the state has a unique history of publishing around 10 farm journals. All India Radio, Doordarsan Kendra and different private Television Channels are regularly doing programmes on Agriculture and allied sectors. But while analyzing the coverage given to different sectors, livestock sector is not getting due coverage when compared to agriculture sector. In order to strengthen the transfer of technologies and knowledge dissemination process in livestock and allied sector, Directorate of Entrepreneurship, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is proposing to conduct farm feature workshops for the faculty members and research scholars of Mannuthy and Pookode campuses of the University. Selected media persons, editors and farm journalists will lead the session.
The first Farm feature workshop for the faculty members and research scholars of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences & College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy will be held at Seminar Hall of College of Veterinary and Animal sciences, Mannuthy on 17th September 2011. Sri. R.T.Ravivarma (Seeri) Editor, Karshakasree will inaugurate the one day workshop at 9.30 AM. Dr.S.Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU will preside over the function. Sri.M.P.Surendran, Deputy Editor, Mathrubhumi will launch the Farm News services of the University.
