02The College of Dairy Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram celebrated World Milk Day 2018 on 1st of June in pomp and valor. Entire staff and students of the College actively participated in day-long celebrations. The day started off with Students Exposure Visit to Anugraha Dairy Farm, Poovachal (Thiruvananthapuram district), a successful dairy farming enterprise started two years back by Mr. Gadlin, a Gulf Returnee who invested his twenty years hard earned money into dairy business. The farm at present has 40 high yielding cross bred milch cattle and having 2 acres of land for fodder cultivation with CO4 Hybrid Napier variety. The Exposure Visit proved an excellent opportunity for the students to acquire knowledge on field level issues in dairy production sector. It was followed by some college level competitions for the B.Tech (Dairy Technology) students. In the evening, a valedictory session was arranged at the College Seminar Hall. Sri. G. R. Jayadevan, Special Officer, CDST Thiruvananthapuram inaugurated the meeting and delivered inaugural speech with his message on World Milk Day 2018. He stressed the growing relevance of setting apart a day exclusively as World Milk Day every year for creating awareness among general public about the importance of milk and milk products. Sri. Rejeesh R., Associate Patron of College Students’ Union 2018-19 distributed prizes to winners of competitions arranged as part of Milk Day celebrations. Milk Sweet; Pal Payasam was prepared by students and distributed to all members of CDST family. Dr. K. Lalu and Sri. Rejeesh R., Assistant Professors of CDST were the Main Co-ordinators of the event. The programme came to a close by 4:30 p.m.
