27Kerala Veterinary University has to take the lead role in the overall development of the Animal Husbandry sector for the benefit of marginal and landless farmers of Livestock sector over and above the academic activities including the agitation by all sections of the University against the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement which is going to sign shortly by the Central government. It will adversely affect the livelihood of lakhs and lakhs of farmers of our country. We must try our level best to exclude Animal Husbandry sector from the agreement. Minister also expressed his satisfaction in taking up socially relevant actions of University and reiterated that the research should be social responsibility oriented for the people and the welfare of the state in total. He appreciated the positive effort of the former Governor of Kerala and Chancellor of Universities in Kerala for the up lift of Universities by convincing the state Government for instituting a Chancellors award.
In his inaugural address, he also appreciated the efforts os students by donating Rs.54, 000/- towards the Chief Ministers Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) and the collection of more than 8,00,000 by the University fraternity to help the farmers by way of relief materials, feed, fodder, livelihoods including the replacement of lost animals by way of distribution of heifers, calves, goats and poultry to the flood victims of Wayanad, Malappuram and Thrissur by “Unarvu” programme of KVASU.

Minister inaugurated the following programmes on 25-10-2019
1. Multi facilitation centre for the benefit of farmers, scientists, students and entrepreneurs in conducting interaction and trainings with residential facility.
2. Farm Advisory Centre at the Directorate of Farms for the advise to the farmers within the state and outside the issues
3. Centre for rehabilitation of Stray Puppies under END (Early Neutering in Dogs) for providing training the veterinarians, animal welfare organizations and creation of awareness among public regarding the handling of dog population in a humane manner
4. Release Meat and Egg products by Livestock Product Technology department and Meat Technology Unit of KVASU
5. Release of Complete feed block by the department of Animal Nutrition to act as a readymade balanced mixture foe cattle especially in lean seasons and at the time of natural calamities.
6. Distribution of Lively hood to the victims of flood through the Unarvu programme
