10The science, and hence the practice of Extension is undergoing fast changes within the concept of development. One of the important transition in this regard is the understanding of the farmers as entrepreneurs, so that they can cope with the classic changes of this millennium: globalization, market led economy, liberalization and public private partnerships. The Directorate of Entrepreneurship look forward in helping the farming community to address the challenges these changes are throwing ; especially in helping farmers/entrepreneurs to take sound opinions and good decisions (words taken from van den Ban). To address this we need to initiate the realization of changes at different levels- faculty, students, farmers and veterinarians. It is a participatory learning process. We need to work on field-based problems and attempt to find solutions them. These solutions need to be disseminated timely to farmers in useful, appropriate and unambiguous ways. It is often not the technologies but the innovation processes involved that can make the difference. We have different, well thought about divisions within the Directorate, which alone or together can make the differences that we mention here. Ultimately in the present State scenario, we look forward for the knowledge (and wisdom) of various stakeholders to function in a synergic way, directed at the issues of food security, poverty alleviation, unemployment, women development and self sufficiency of livestock products. The change has to broadly address the Clinical and Production concerns. Advancements in clinical practices, and problems with production practices in the field, calls for capacity building of different stakeholders including faculty. The benefit of this could be reaped by students and farmers. The Vice Chancellor has a dream of building an ideal Knowledge centre that caters to the needs of the present day. He has a team of good officers, dedicated faculty, quality students and enthusiastic staff.
We need to work together to create history. Rather than looking for examples elsewhere, we need to change to examples which other institutions look for.
As Gandhiji reminds Be the change you want to see in the world.
