27 KVASU State level Workshop on SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION MODELS AND THEIR PROSPECTIVE SCALING UP IN ANIMAL HUSBANDRY SECTOR IN COLLABORATION WITH ATMA, was held at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayanad on 22nd May 2013. The workshop was presided over by Dr. S. Ramkumar Director of Entrepreneurship and inaugurated by the Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. B.Ashok, I.A.S. Dr. P. Rajashekaran Nair, (Chief, Agriculture), Planning Board, Kerala State delivered the key-note address and explained the possibilities and opportunities of an effective KVASU-ATMA partnership. The event was felicitated by Dr. K.P.Sreekumar, Registrar, KVASU and Dr. Chandrahasan, Director of Extension Education, TANUVAS. Dr. Joseph Mathew, Chairman, Organizing Committee proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural session was followed by a technical session comprising of presentations and success stories on innovations and technologies developed by KVASU, ATMA, other line departments and the progressive farmers. Following the group discussions, the workshop output was consolidated and recommendations on priority areas enlisted.
A working Committee was formulated with the members from different streams for an effective KVASU-ATMA partnership that could consolidate innovations and take up further scaling up of technologies and innovation processes. The Committee will also identify problem-oriented filed level research issues and bring out a working model of participatory research with member from KVASU, line department and farmer to spearhead the field research. It was decided to arrive at conclusions of these meetings. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled to be conducted at Thodupuzha, Idukki on 27th June 2013. The research areas to be addressed by KVASU are to be identified on a priority basis and expert teams for research shall be constituted with scientists, veterinarians, farmers, stakeholders etc. It was also proposed to depute the university scientists and officers for the farmer-scientist interface programmes of ATMA.
