16As a new development model, self-help group acquires more significance now a days. Recently more number of women self help groups are interested to undertake livestock production as one of their livelihood options. Many SHGs are involved in Goat and dairying under the impression that it won’t need much skill. Those SHGs having specialized skill in different areas are interested to undertake jobs in respective areas. But women SHGs involved in dairying will gradually feel that it needs more skilled work. So there exists a knowledge gap among women SHGs in the areas of scientific livestock rearing practices in scientific breeding, selection of animals, housing, feeding, management, disease control, value addition and marketing of milk and milk products. Interventions, which will try to fill the above knowledge gap, must be given adequate importance.
It has been proposed to conduct a one day workshop for women Self Help Groups of Wayanad district to assess their training needs with the following objectives
Venue- Seminar Hall, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, KVASU, Pookode, Wayanad on 21st December 2011 at 10AM
• To assess the existing level of knowledge gained by livestock based women SHGs
• To find out the desired level of knowledge to attain sustainability in farming and to improve livelihood options
• To formulate training programmes which can fill the knowledge gap
50 women SHG members from Wayanad district will participate in the one day workshop.
