26 In the era where conservation science is emerging as one of the research priorities in the Globe, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is planning to identify the research priorities in this sector. As part of the same Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organised a three day International workshop on “Identifying Priority Areas in Wildlife Conservation and the Role of KVASU” which begins on 25th November 2014 at its Pookode Campus Dr. Joseph Mathew, Registrar, KVASU inaugurated the programme. He suggested that steps taken by KVASU to develop academic and research programmes are important for the conservation of wildlife in our region. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan presided over the function. Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy Dr.Sisilamma George released the Publications. Director, Academics & Research Dr.K.Devada Sri. Pramod G. Krishan IFS (Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Northern Region), international experts from University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and University of Calgary (Canada) offered felicitations. Dr.K.P.Sreekumar welcomed the delegates and Officer in charge Dr.George Chandy expressed vote of thanks. Faculty and students of KVASU will attend the Workshop. Dr. Anna Meredith, Professor and Head, Dept. of Zoology and Conservation Medicine, University of Edinburgh suggested that we have collaboration with KVASU- CWS for the past three years in student training. We hope to further develop the collaboration for the sake of all the stake holders and for mutual benefits in the years to come.
Dr. Nigel Caulkett of University of Calgary, Canada suggested that University had a long standing relation with KVASU in the area of wildlife conservation and interested in collaborative research involving students and faculty of KVASU. Dr.Natalie Waran of University of Edinburgh suggested for developing further collaboration that would improve animal welfare in future. The workshop is a sequel of three years of multidisciplinary National and International collaborative ventures developed by KVASU in various areas including Wildlife science. KVASU has already established MoUs for collaboration with the Kerala Forest Research Institute, Kerala State Forest Department and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. University has already completed a collaborative student research project involving faculty of University of Calgary, Canada.
