13As part of Global Innovation Initiative (GII) Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is organizing third International Workshop on ‘Sustainable livestock systems’ at Flora Airport Hotel, Nedumbassery, Kochi from Kochi, Kerala, India, from 19th to 20th August 2015. Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr.B.Ashok will inaugurate the workshop and deliver keynote address on 19th August 2015. Vice Chancellors of Amrita University Dr.R.Venkat Rangan, Kerala Agricultural University Dr.P.Rajendran, Kerala University for Fisheries and Oceanographic Studies Dr. Madhusoodana Kurup, Professor Michel Lee and Professor Mark Eisler of University of Bristol, UK and Director of Academics & Research Dr.K.Devada will address the delegates. Registrar of KVASU Dr.Joseph Mathew will preside over the function. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan will offer introductory speech. KVASU’s publications highlighting activities in the areas of Entrepreneurship, One Health and Compendium will be released during the Workshop. Kerala Veterinary and Animal sciences University is partnering universities in the Global Innovation Initiative project of “Global farm Platform”. The project is a global network of ‘farm platforms', across different climatic and eco-regions of the planet, undertaken as a crucial resource for optimizing and exemplifying research on the contribution of sustainable livestock production to global food security. Currently the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (India; KVASU) is partnering with University of Bristol (UK; UoB), University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA; UWM), Kansas State University (USA: KSU) and Zhejiang University (China; ZU). As part of the Workshop GII board meeting will be held on 17th and 21st August at Hotel Flora, Kochi. Delegates will visit Livestock Research Station; Thiruvazhamkunnu, Palakkad on 18th August 2015 which is identified as the Future farm for sustainable development. Around 60 delegates across the World will participate in the International workshop. The sessions include Sustainable farming Systems, pasture management, fodder management practices, precision nutrition farming, mitigation of green house gases, animal adaptation, knowledge dissemination and one health.
