22 World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16th October to commemorate the foundation day of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1945. World Food Day aims to create awareness on the plight of the world's hunger and to encourage people worldwide to take action against it. More than 150 countries observe this event every year. In United States, 450 National, private voluntary organizations sponsor World Food Day, and local groups are active in almost every community. WFD started observed in 1981 and each year it highlights a particular theme as its focus activity.
To commemorate the world food day, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy in association with Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) Thrissur Chapter is organising a quiz and poster competition on Food and Nutrition for the High school students on October 14 (Friday) at Veterinary College Auditorium from 12 noon onwards. The event is a flagship programme of AFST (I) which it has been organising for the past 15 years.
