01 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University launched first phase of Startup Village Project at Pullazhi Kole, Olari, Thrissur. Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU is implementing this project with the support from Trichur Urban Development Authority and Pullazhi Kole Co-operative Society. This is a unique project in the State where Startup project is implementing in the Agri, Livestock and allied sectors. Sri.Therambil Ramakrishnan MLA inaugurated the first phase of the project on 1st October 2015 at Pullazhi Vayanasala, Pullazhi. While inaugurating the Project MLA suggested that startup will facilitate a unique model of development so as to produce livestock, agri and allied products in an integrated manner. Moreover it is high time to think of achieving self sufficiency in production of milk, egg, meat and other food products in the State. Our production system should consider environmental and climatic factors for developing a sustainable development model. Thrissur Startup will be a model for other States; MLA added. Thrissur Urban Development Authority Chairman Sri. K.Radhakrishnan during the presidential address suggested that beneficiaries should concentrate on quality products for the health of people. Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan and President, Pullazhi kole Co-operative Society Sri. Gopinathan addressed the gathering.
The project envisages for developing a sustainable development model in dairy, poultry and allied sectors. Productivity enhancement is given due importance in this phase. As part of the project fodder cultivation will be promoted in a big way. Based on the stakeholder demand identified through the survey and technology innovation and dissemination process, appropriate inputs were distributed. As part of productivity enhancement beneficiaries were give CO3 fodder slips and mineral mixtures developed by Department of Animal Nutrition, KVASU, Mannuthy and Vegetable seeds. A scientific seminar on fodder cultivation and animal health were held as part of the function. Dr.Sajith Purushothaman and Dr.A.Janus, Asst Professors of KVASU took classes. In order to promote poultry production beneficiaries will be provided with crossbred layers and poultry feed in the coming months. Entire bunds of the kole lands will be used for cultivating fodder and vegetables.
