16 In the era where services sector supersedes primary and secondary sectors, entrepreneurship and skill development are emerging as the potential areas which can create more employment in India- says Dr. M. T. Reju IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP). Agriculture sector skills play a key role in promoting productivity in livestock sector. Poultry industry can create more employment in the country – Dr. M.T.Reju made this statement while inaugurating ‘”Prebav 2015- The Poultry Industry Entrepreneurship Interface” organised by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University held at Hotel Mascot, Thiruvananthapuram on 16th November 2015. ASAP has already started identifying the skill gaps so as to implement appropriate skill development programmes. As part of the same, ASAP has also identified appropriate courses in association with Agriculture sector skill council of National Skill Development Co-operation. Modified Apprenticeship Act is in the process of implementation in the state. Dr. Reju added.
University is seriously thinking of establishing poultry parks in association with industry and entrepreneurship in order to exploit potential employment in poultry industry told Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Dr. B. Ashok, IAS, during his keynote address. Value addition is the only way through which profitability from poultry farming can be increased. Dr. Ashok added. Dr. Joseph Mathew, Registrar, KVASU presided the function. Dr. Reju released KVASU’s publications on “Entrepreneurship updates” and ‘’Media Highlights’’ detailing the various activities of the directorate since its inception. Shri. Pramod, Joint Secretary, All Kerala Poultry Traders and Farmers’ Samithi suggested that existing taxation and market pressure affects poultry industry in a big way. Weekly, fifty lakhs broilers are produced in the state. The weekly consumption is nearly 100 lakhs kilo grams. He emphasized that it is high time to implement a poultry policy for the state to help the poultry farmers and entrepreneurs.
Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr. S. Chandrankutty, Academics and Research Director of KVASU, Dr. K. Devada, Faculty of Avian Sciences Special Officer, Dr. A. Jalaludeen, and Shri. T. S. Pramod , Joint Secretary, All Kerala Poultry Traders and Farmers’ Samithi offered felicitations. Dr. T. P. Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU during his introductory remarks suggested that Indians spend 40% of his daily income for food of which he is spending 28% for animal protein sources in urban areas and 26 % in rural areas whereas it is 26% and 24% respectively in rural areas with regard to vegetables. During the interface, Dr. A Jalaludeen presented a topic on Prospects of poultry sector in Kerala and Dr. Venkitesh , Senior Technical Manager, Venky’s India Ltd. presented the topic, Good Management Practices in poultry farms. Dr. T. P. Sethumadhavan handled a session on Prospects of poultry industry, Dr. B, Sunil presented topic on clean, green and ethical production and Dr. A.S.Rajan, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department detailed various poultry development schemes of Animal Husbandry Department. As part of PREBAV 2015, stakeholder based workshop on Package of Practices 2015 will be held on 17th and Entrepreneurship summit will be held on 18th at Hotel Mascot Thiruvananthapuram.
