Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University located in Pookode, Wayanad, could display an extremely credible performance by securing 256.74 points in the Chancellor’s Award Competition for the best performing University in the last three years. The University could establish its merits in direct competition with Universities like the Kerala University and CUSAT which have fifty to hundred years of operational experience.
The University which operates in interim headquarters at Pookode has grown from 700 students in four academic programmes run by 150 faculty members to a present student strength of 2200 supported by a faculty of 254. The Vice Chancellor had made detailed presentation to the Award Committee led by the Chancellor on 21-11-2015. The Vice Chancellor recorded the University’s gratitude for the opportunity to test its competitive strength in the first ever Chancellor’s award competition. Initially the University was in two minds whether to participate or not. We were not aware about what each Sister University had to offer in the parameters evaluated in the contest. A weak comparative position would have demoralised many. However, the management took a considered decision to contest as it would reveal the areas which need strengthening. We are happy to see gamble as paid off.
“The University’s present challenge is to compete the national ranking framework announced by the UGC and also get listed respectably in Asia Pacific ranking and global rankings in the next two years. These challenges ahead are daunting and require perhaps several times the present efforts. The University needs to gear fully for the same”, the Vice Chancellor said.
