Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will launch Academic Staff College (ASC) at Mannuthy, Thrissur campus on 29th December 2015 at 12 Noon. Vice Chancellor of KVASU Dr.B.Ashok will inaugurate the ASC at Mannuthy.Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University Dr.P.Rajendran will deliver keynote address. Workshop on communication management for Post graduates, doctoral students and faculty members will be held on 29th December 2015 at 9.30AM.Noon... KVASU is launching Academic Staff College at Mannuthy with the financial support of Rs 98 lakhs from NABARD under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund. Academic Staff College will come under Directorate of Entrepreneurship of University. ASC will organize specially designed orientation programmes in pedagogy, educational psychology and philosophy, and socio-economic and political concerns for all new entrants at the level of Assistant Professors, organize specially designed orientation programmes/refresher courses in IT for new entrants as well as for in-service teachers and to encourage teachers to participate in seminars, symposia, workshops, etc.
The objectives of the Academic Staff College (ASC) enable the faculty to understand the significance of education in general and professional education in particular, in the global and Indian contexts, acquire and improve basic skills of teaching at the college/university level to achieve goals of professional education and keep abreast of the latest developments in their specific subjects, bring in vibrant academic leadership skills in organization and management of the college/university and to perceive the leadership role of teachers in the total system, utilize opportunities for development of personality, initiative and creativity and promote competency in ICT based teaching.
KVASU Academic Staff College will give thrust to e-content development and Move on to Open online courses. The ASC will inculcate in the new entrants as well as in-service teachers the use of software tools, e-content development and online courses and ICT based teaching techniques irrespective of the subject/discipline they are teaching.
The concept of an orientation programme emphasizes teachers as agents of socio-economic change for National development. Under the programme, it is intended to inculcate young teachers the quality of self-reliance through their awareness of the social, intellectual and moral environment. The functions of the Academic Staff College will be to plan, organise, implement, monitor and evaluate orientation/ other courses for newly appointed college/university/ inservice faculty. The ASC will also organise National level refresher courses for serving teachers, and orientation programmes for senior administrators and heads of department, Deans and other Officers.
