Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has launched the Academic Staff College (ASC) at its Mannuthy campus of Thrissur district on 29th December, 2015. The college was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok IAS, who emphasized on strengthening the curriculum of newly designed courses for faculty, in tune with the changing scenario in the educational sector. He urged the faculty to think different so that the university could stand out in the field. Faculty should also be fine tuned to meet the changing aspirations of the students. The meeting was presided by the Registrar, KVASU Dr. Joseph Mathew, who opined that mentoring the mentors would be a challenge before the staff college. Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr. T.P. Sethumadhavan outlined the priorities of the staff college, especially in development of e content..ASC will organize implement, monitor and evaluate orientation or other courses for newly appointed faculty in colleges/university/in service. ASC will also organize national level refresher courses for serving teachers and orientation programme for senior level officials.
The Academic staff college enable the faculty to understand the significance of education in general, professional education in particular in the global and Indian context to acquire improved basic skills of teaching at the college/university level, keeping abreast of the latest developments in their specific subjects. This will also enable, bringing-in vibrant academic leadership skills in organization & management of colleges and to perceive the leadership role of teachers in the total system. This will facilitate in promoting personality development, creativity and competency in ICT based teaching.
The academic staff college will also give thrust to e content development for ‘moving-on to open-online’ (MOOC) courses. The ASC will inculcate skills in the use of software tools, e content development and online courses and ICT based teaching techniques in respective disciplines for new entrants as well as in-service teachers. The concept of orientation programme emphasizes teachers as agents of socio-economic change for national development as well as the focus on inculcating qualities of self reliance in the present social intellectual and moral environment.

The launch of the college was marked by a workshop on ‘Communication Skill Development’ for the post graduate and doctoral students.
