NABL accreditation granted to KVASU laboratories of Veterinary College, Mannuthy
National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration of Laboratories (NABL) has granted accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for three Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University laboratories of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Trichur: Central Instruments Laboratory, Feed Analysis Laboratory of Department of Animal Nutrition and Quality Control Laboratory of Department of Veterinary Public Health. Utilising the facilities and proficiency, the three laboratories are bound to bestow precise, reliable and un-biased results to the public customers at reasonable cost in the years to come.
Central Instruments Laboratory got accreditation for testing thyroid hormones in serum samples by Radio Immuno Assay (RIA). The RIA laboratory is designed as per the specifications of Radiological Safety Division of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai. Estimation of concentrations of thyroid hormones (Total T4 and T3), TSH, free T3 and T4 are carried out in human and animal blood/serum samples by RIA method.This method is rated superior on sensitivity over chemiluminescence immunoassay and ELISA methods of hormonal estimation.
Feed Analysis Laboratory of Department of Animal Nutrition has been accredited for testing nutritive value of livestock and poultry feed namely moisture content, total ash and acid insoluble ash. This laboratory also takes up the estimation of protein, fibre, ether extract (fat), nitrogen free extracts and minerals of feed.
Quality Control Laboratory of Department of Veterinary Public Health got accreditation for water testing. Tests for the number of Escherichia coli(E.coli), Coliforms and faecal Streptococci (Enterococci) are undertaken in drinking water, ground water and water for food processing industry by MPN technique.
