21NSS units of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in association with School of Zoonoses Public Health and Pathobiology organized a three days camp at Gopal Memorial High School, Thiruvalathur, Kodunbu, Palakkad from 12/02/2016 to 14/02/2016. The camp was inaugurated by Smt. Binumol, Health and education Standing committee Chairperson in the presence of Sri. Kitta- Manager, GHSS, Dr. Venugopalan Nair- DAHO, Palakkad, Sri. T. Sunil, Sri. Guruvayurappan and S. Sukumaran- Panchayath Members, Sri. Gangadaran, Dr. C. B. Manomohan-NSS coordinator, Dr. Ajith Jacob George and Dr. C. Latha- NSS programme officers. The Programme included Exhibition on “Know Zoonoses to no Zoonoses”, Animal health camps and farmers interface, vegetable gardening and Guruvandanam. Dr. T.R. Jayakrishnan, Veterinary Surgeon, Kodumbu- the general Convener, Reshmi Raveendran and Reshnu - NSS secretaries were actively involved in the programme
First day, the Exhibition on “ Know Zoonoses to no Zoonoses” was inaugurated by Sri. Kitta- Manager, GHSS and about 500 students and framers had visited the exhibition. The programmes included an awareness seminar on Zoonoses. Dr. Anila Mathews, Professor & Head of Dept. of Microbiology and Dr. S. Aswathy, Professor & Head of Dept. of Community Medicine from Palakkad medical College and Dr. C Latha, Professor & Head of Dept.VPH, CVAS, Mannuthy had presented papers in the seminar. Quiz programme for the school students was also conducted for which Arjun Sha was the Quiz master. In the evening, Sri. N. Radhakrishnan Nair, the famous Malayalam critic addressed the gathering and described the importance of Thazrak followed by Palakkadan Pattukal presented by Nattuvettam troup.
On 13/02/16 Animal Health camps at Palayamkode Veterinary Centre, and Kodumbu Veterinary Dispensary was lead by Eminent Scientists Dr. Aravinda Ghosh, Dr. Abhilash, Dr. Madavanunni and Post graduate students from CVAS, Mannuthy. About 80 framers had attended the programme. In the afternoon, Biosample examination and farmers interface was lead by Dr. Aravinda Ghosh, Professor and Head, CVAS, Mannuthy. Dr. Sudhodhanan, Head, Dept. of Zoonotic Diseases, P.K Das Memorial High School [Retired DD, AHD] shared his vast experience and lead a programme “Nostalgia” in the evening hours.
Third day, planting of mango trees and setting of Vegetable garden was inaugurated by Smt. Shylaja, Grama Panchayath President in the presence of sri. Mani- Principal, VHSE, Smt. Subadra Devi- Principal, HSS and the NSS volunteers of GHSS and CVAS, Mannuthy. The Valedictory programme was inaugurated by Smt. K.P. Shyja- Block Panchayath President and Chief Guest of the function was famous writer Mundur Sethumadhavan. The main attraction of the programme was “Guruvandanam” in which all the previous NSS programme officers were honored. Dr. C. George Varghese, Dr. M. K. Rajagopalan, Dr. Subadra, Dr. Lalithakunjamma, Dr. N. Vijayan and Smt. Kanaka Latha [wife of late Dr. Ramachandran] attended the function with their family.
