28Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will launch the safe to eat products from Start up village project on 1st March 2016. University started implementing this project since 2014-2015 under the state plan project in Kole lands of Thrissur district. Thrissur Pullazhi kole land was selected for the project. The project envisages to make convergence of Agriculture, livestock and fisheries sector and to produce safe to eat products. The products will be marketed under the KASAVU. These products will be made available through different outlets of the University and Pullazhi Kole sahakarana sangham. Start up village is a unique project of KVASU in India facilitating the concept of Safe to eat. Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU is implementing this programme with the support of Thrissur Urban Development Authority and Pullazhi Kle Sahakarana Sangham.At a time people are suffering with choric diseases due to excess use of pesticides and antibiotics the startup village project envisage to produce agri and livestock products with less than permissible limits of antibiotic and pesticide residues. It will be ascertained in the nationally accredited laboratories of KVASU. Initially the products include rice, milk, vegetables and egg. Move to market organic or pesticide free products at a premium price will facilitate farmers to get better profit margins even with the low productivity. It was made available through best management practices in all the production systems. KVASU supplied fodder slips, Dewormers and Mineral mixtures to improve productivity from dairying. University used to organise Veterinary health cum infertility camps and awareness seminars on a regular basis to help livestock farmers. In order to control mastitis, disease control kits were provided to Dairy farmers. Along with Dairying measures were taken to produce and market organic eggs, broiler chicken, vegetables, fishes, organic rice, inputs for organic farming like dried garden manure, vegetable manure and biodynamic mixture. Initially 30 Entrepreneurs of Pullazhi kole are involved in the Start up village project. Sri. Therambil Ramakrishnan MLA will launch the products on 1st March 2016 at St.Joseph Church Hall, Pullazhi at 3 PM. Thrissur Mayor Smt.Ajitha Jayaraj will preside over the function.TDA chairman Sri.K.Radhakrishan, Registrar Dr.Joseph Mathew,Senior officials from KVASU and local body representatives and farmers will attend the launching ceremony.
