08School of Applied Animal Production and Biotechnology (SAAPBT), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Thrissur organizes a series of Hands onTraining Programme on “Basic Molecular Biology Techniques” from April 2016 onwards at Mannuthy, Thrissur. The course is open to faculty members, research scholars, post-graduate students and professionals from Government / Private institutions involved in research/teaching in biological sciences. The first batch of the training is scheduled from 1-7 April, 2016. SAAPBT along with Centre for Advanced Studies in Animal Genetics and Breeding has got well-equipped laboratories with all modern facilities for carrying out biological research.
Molecular biology is a branch of science concerning biological activity at the molecular level including the interactions between different types of DNA, RNA and proteins and their biosynthesis and studies how these interactions are regulated. The developments in molecular biology are advancing at a very rapid rate and applications of these techniques have led to rapid progress in all field of biological research including agriculture, biotechnology, animal husbandry, functional genomics, cell biology, microbiology and diagnostics. A sound knowledge in Molecular Biology techniques is a prerequisite for the successful conduct of all biological studies and for drawing meaningful conclusions in solving various research problems.
The methodology would consist of lectures, hands-on-practical sessions and discussions. The emphasis would be to understand and interpret the results of various molecular biology techniques. The contents of the training include Genome organization and function, Principles of DNA isolation and quantization, Agarose gel electrophoresis, Principles of RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis, Polymerase chain reaction and primer designing, Restriction endonuclease analysis of DNA, Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Real time polymerase chain reaction, Principles, methodologies and applications of Sanger’s and Next Generation Sequencing techniques.
The training, handled by experts in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics field will be an opportunity to the students, researchers and faculties who wish to begin their research in the field of Molecular Biology. The course fee is Rs. 10000/- Accommodation shall be provided to the participants on request at nominal charges on sharing basis.
