27 13th National Congress on Canine Practice is being organised at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, a constituent college of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU). This National Congress is being organised every year at different parts of the country in connection with the annual convention of Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (ISACP) and this is the first time in the history of the Society, it is organising this Congress on canine practice in Kerala. This year it is to be held during 27th to 29th of April 2016 and is being jointly organised by CVAS, KVASU, Pookode and ISACP. In connection with the annual Congress, a Symposium is being organised on the very relevant subject, “Concepts of One Health in Canine Health Care Management”.
Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (ISACP) is a technical association of Scientists, academicians and practitioners involved in the field of Veterinary Science (Research and Development) related to the pet animals, namely dogs and cats. The society is actively involved in organising scientific deliberations to disseminate the advanced technologies for national development and in the interest of veterinary profession in general and Canine Practice in particular. At present, this is the only scientific body in India to deal the Veterinary Science related to pet practice. The demand for a National Institute or a Research Centre for Dogs and Cats in India has not met with a positive response from the government also. Under these circumstances, the activities of ISACP is of paramount importance. The Society gathers together professionals from different branches of Veterinary Science and allied subjects under one umbrella and promote interdisciplinary approach to provide an effective platform for deliberations and discussions on various challenges faced by the pet practice field. Academicians and researchers from various governmental agencies like National Research Institutes, like, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), various Veterinary Universities, Veterinary Colleges, Remount and Veterinary Corpse of Indian Army, BSF, SSB, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and entrepreneurs from Canine/ Pet Food Industry are involved in such deliberations. The objective of holding such interactions is to advance the art and science of Canine Practice through enhancement of knowledge and skill of veterinarians so that they can remain on the “cutting edge” of their profession and able to provide a quality service to their clients.
Every year, the Society selects a very relevant topic for its annual National Symposium to discuss and deliberate, and this year it is the role of One Health Concept in Health Care Management, where a holistic approach is taken towards the health care of human beings, animals and environment, because of the very fact that all the three are interrelated and interdependent and tampering with any one system will destabilize the health of others. It is believed that the deliberations on the topic will give a better insight for all the veterinarians taking part in the health care management of not only pets, but the entire ecosystem. Hence, eminent scientists and academicians from various Universities and National Institutions are leading the deliberations with a view for maximum output.
