06 Para Legal Volunteers are the new arm of Indian Legal Services who are enabling poor, socially backward, geographically or culturally isolated people to attain proper legal remedies to their grievances. As a new initiative to Indian Legal Services mechanism, the students of Institute of Tribal Studies and Research (ITSR), Chethalayam of Calicut University is coming forward to reshape and redefine legal services under the leadership of their Hon'ble Vice Chancellor. Under the leadership of KeLSA and DLSA in Wayanad District, where 40 per cent of State's tribe resides, emerges a scientific and professionally managed tribal grievance redressal mechanism. Besides, the ITSR is stepping out to launch a permanent legal aid clinic at their campus. The Legal Aid Clinic and Legal Awareness Programmes was initiated at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode.
In the first phase, the programme jointly organized by Kerala State Legal Services Authority, University of Calicut and Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was inaugurated by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan, Acting Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala and Executive Chairman, KeLSA on 04.06.2016 at 10.45 a.m. at Kabani Auditorium, KVASU. A lecture on ‘Preamble of Constitution of India’ by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Babu Mathew P. Joseph was held.
The function was attended by Dr. V. Vijayakumar, Hon’ble District & Sessions Judge, Kalpetta, Dr. K. Muhammed Basheer, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, Shri. P. Mohan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, Adv. N.J.Hanas, President, Bar Association, Kalpetta, Shri. K. Sathyan, Member Secretary, KELSA (District Judge), Dr. E. Pushpalatha, Director, ITSR and the KVASU officers, staff and students.
