04The College of Dairy Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram joined hands with Department of Dairy Development to celebrate World Milk Day 2016 on 1st of June in pomp and valor. Entire staff and students of the College along with officials of Dairy Development Department, Thiruvananthapuram district and Vellanad APCOS actively participated in the day-long celebrations. The programme was arranged at the Mini auditorium, APCOS building, Vellanad.
The day started off with Students Exposure Visit to the daily collection activities of the society early morning. The Secretary of Society, Smt. Nageena Devi explained about procurement and testing activities performed at the unit. It was followed by a modest inaugural function which started by 11:00 A.M. Sri. Sabu M.S., the Dairy Farm Instructor of Vellanad Dairy Extension Service Unit welcomed the gathering. Sri. Muraleedharan Nair, President-Vellanad APCOS presided over the meeting. Prof. (Dr.) P. Sudheer Babu, Special Officer, CDST Thiruvananthapuram inaugurated the World Milk Day 2016 celebrations and delivered his inaugural speech. He stressed the growing relevance of setting apart a day exclusively as World Milk Day every year for creating awareness among general public about the importance of milk and milk products. The Special Officer distributed KVASU Mineral Mixture kits to 50 selected dairy farmer members of Vellanad Milk Society. Smt. Nageena Devi, Secretary – Vellanad APCOS felicitated the gathering. This was followed by a training session on ‘Clean Milk Production and Farm Hygiene Practices’ led by Dr. K. Lalu, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Dairy Husbandry, CDST Thiruvananthapuram. The training session was followed by ‘Farmer-Scientist Interface’ led by Assistant Professors; Dr. K. Lalu, Sri. Rejeesh R, Sri. Jayadevan G. R., Smt. Beena R. L. and Dr. C. R. Rachana of CDST Thiruvananthapuram. Sri. Jude Felix, Student Representative 2015 Admission extended vote of thanks. The inaugural ceremony came to a close by 1:30 p.m. A feast was arranged for the farmers, society personnel, dairy development department officials and participants from CDST. The students then made a visit in afternoon session to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vellanad and ‘Mithra Nikethan’ Vellanad campus.
