08Inauguration of One Year Long Science Popularisation programme entitled “Maintenance of Healthy Hoof in Dairy Cattle for Production Benefits and Welfare Improvement” supported and co- sponsored by the KSCSTE was held at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy. The Science Popularisation programme was taken up by the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy consist of seminars, demonstrations, awareness classes and documentary to popularize the economic and welfare aspects of hoof disorders associated with lameness along with adoption of preventive interventions applicable to marginal dairy farmers of Kerala. In the first phase of the project, a one day seminar was conducted on 28.6.2016 at University Livestock Farm, Mannuthy for progressive farmers of Thrissur district. Theory Sessions were arranged at Seminar Hall, Dept. of Animal Reproduction CVAS, Mannuthy and demonstrations on hoof trimming and management of hoof conditions were performed at University Livestock Farm, Mannuthy. Thirty progressive farmers from Madakkatthara, Pananchery and Nadathara grama panchayath participated in the seminar. The inauguration of the seminar was done by Dr. Sisilamma George, Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy and Dr. K. Anil Kumar Associate Dean, CVAS Mannuthy released booklet on hoof care in the function presided by Dr. C.B. Devanand, Professor and Head, Dept of. Surgery and Dr. Anil K.S. Professor and Head, University Livestock Farm offered felicitations . The guests and participants of the seminar were welcomed by Dr. Laiju M Philip, Asst. Professor, Dept of. Surgery and Project Investigator. and Dr. Rupalee Gang, Research Assistant expressed the Vote of thanks.

5. Discussions on preventive measures for disorders: Dr. K.D. John Martin, Associate Professor and Head, UVH,Kokkalai
In the feedback session, farmers have pointed that they could realise the importance of hoof care of cows with respect to routine farm practice for improving milk production. The training imparted them awareness on ensuring better hoof care of animals as feeding and will follow it regularly and share the information to all farmers in their locality under the scoiety from where they belong.
