25Dairying in India needs to be seen in the context of number in terms of values given to the farmers. Primary focus of Co-operatives should be in building transparency and trust from the dairy farmers. Says Sri. T.Nandakumar, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board. Chairman made this statement while addressing the faculty and students of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Pookode Campus after signing MoU between KVASU and NDDB on 25th July 2016 at KVASU Pookode Campus. Climate change affects not only production, price, lactation period, disease, inter calving period but overall return from dairying as well. In order to reduce cost of production, National Dairy Development Board is implementing the pioneering project of Ration Balancing to support small holder Dairy System with ICT deliverables like Mobile App. Market trends, food safety and genetics are some of the emerging sectors in Dairying. Genomics need to be addressed in the changing context to improve production and productivity. NDDB has huge data of over a million animals, breeds, disease profiles which are computer driven and will facilitate analytics and policy formulations. In the changing scenario students need to aspire for developing technologies which can address the challenges faced by the Dairy farmers. Chairman added.
NDDB Chairman launched the newly formed Agriculture Research Information system of College of Veterinary and Animal sciences, Pookode and distributed the Best teacher awards to Dr.Senthil Murugan, Dr.Shynu and Dr.Sujarani, Asst Professors of the College. Registrar Dr.Joseph Mathew presided over the function and signed MoU on behalf of KVASU and Dr.Kasiraj, General Manager, on behalf of NDDB. NDDB will collaborate with KVASU to promote and facilitate scientific cooperation,on conducting joint research, training and extension of scientific animal husbandry practices.
The joint venture will facilitate Productivity enhancement programmes with the use of appropriate inputs like Mineral mixture, Parasite control, Ration Balancing programme, Cow Comfort, Animal welfare, fodder development and area specific fertilizer &Extension tools. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan and Dean Dr.K.Vijayakumar addressed the gathering. All the faculty members and students of KVASU Pookode Campus attended the programme.
