In the changing scenario, it is high time to promote inter disciplinary research on local cattle breeds suitable for the State; Says Adv.V.S.Sunilkumar, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Kerala. Minister made this statement while inaugurating the Young Dairy Entrepreneurship Summit Kerala-DESK 2016 organized by Directorate of Entrepreneurship and College of Dairy Sciences and Technology of KVASU at Hotel Pearl Regency, Thrissur on 6th August 2016. Research works for developing breeds suitable for the changing climate need to be developed. Universities should conduct multi disciplinary research on trade related issues, diversity in agriculture and conservation of local cattle. While India is trying for Regional co-operative Partnership with developed countries as part of Economic Partnership scientists need to think of cost effective strategies to make dairying sustainable. Trade related global agreements will affect sustainability in dairying. Lot of Multinational corporates are trying to enter in to Indian Dairy and food processing market. Reduction of prices of Agricultural commodities in the international market will affect the domestic sector. Universities need to address this emerging system and to develop appropriate advisories for the policymakers and stakeholders. Recently since the trend is more towards A2 milk across the globe, more research work on this issue will create awareness among the dairy farmers and public.Young dairy Entrepreneurship will facilitate to increase milk production in the State and make dairying Sustainable. Government of Kerala is trying to achieve self sufficiency in milk production. Currently the state could produce 72 percent of the requirement. Minister added.
Minister released the commercial launch of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s safe to eat products developed from Startup Village of Pullazhi Kole and released the Newsletter and publications of KVASU. KVASU’s Entrepreneurship directorate is implementing this project with the support from Pullazhi Kole Sahakarana Sangham and Thrissur Urban Development Authority. The Products will be available under the label KASAVU which include rice, vegetables and egg. Registrar of KVASU Dr.Joseph Mathew presided over the function . Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship delivered the introductory talk. Dr.Gireesh Varma, Dean, College of Dairy science and Technology offered felicitation. Dr.Deepa Ananth expressed vote of thanks.
During the summit experts presented papers on Dairy entrepreneurship, prospects, precision farming, disease control, marketing, waste management, product development, value addition, changing trends and importance of mechanization in dairying. Major recommendations of DESK 2016 include use of appropriate interventions in breeding, feeding, management, housing, disease control and marketing will facilitate sustainability in dairy entrepreneurship. University is trying to provide integrated approach in livestock production and to provide single window system for promoting dairy entrepreneur in the State; Says Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director, Entrepreneurship of KVASU. 150 Entrepreneurs participated in the Summit.
