26 Convergence between Technology and Entrepreneurship will facilitate emergence of Startup ventures in Agriculture Sector; Says Dr.P.Rajendran, Vice Chancellor of Kerala Agricultural University. Vice Chancellor made this remark while inaugurating the Sensitisation workshop on Entrepreneurship Development and Business Plan presentation organised by Indian Council of Agriculture Research, National Academy for Agriculture Research Management (NAARM), Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Kerala Agricultural University at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy on 26th August 2016.
Value addition, precision fertiliser usage, food processing are the sectors in the country which can generate more entrepreneurs in Agriculture and allied sectors. Entrepreneurship workshop will change the mindset of students towards Entrepreneurial ecosystem and will try to develop self confidence among students to become successful entrepreneurs. Vice Chancellor added. Registrar of KVASU Dr.Joseph Mathew presided over the function. While delivering the keynote address, Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship of KVASU suggested that in the changing scenario where growth in Agriculture GDP is getting reduced in the country promotion of Agribusiness innovations will facilitate Agri entrepreneurship in the country. Moreover Agriculture is moving towards Agribusiness in the country and services sector supersedes all other sectors. There are huge prospects for Agribusiness services sector with appropriate information communication technology deliverables and smartphone based system. By 2020 it has been projected that there will be 730 million internet users in the country with 705 million smartphones.
Dr.Sisilamma George, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy offered felicitations. CEO of Technology Business incubator of NAARM Dr.K.Sreenivas offered introductory remarks. Board of Management Member Dr.Sabin George and Management Council member of KVASU Dr.K.P.Sreekumar attended the programme.Smt.Omana Muralidharan a Fish Entrepreneur presented a paper on real time issues and strategies for Startups, Dr.M.P.Ashwanth presented a paper on journey of successful startup of Kinetic machines. Dr.K.Muralidharan from CPCRI Kasargod and Dr.George NInan from CIFT, Kochi presented a paper on Entrepreneurial opportunities in Horticulture and Fisheries sectors. Dr.K.P.Sudheer from Kerala Agriculture University presented a paper on prospects of Agricultural and food processing sectors. 20 student teams presented the Business plans and best two teams were given Cash awards. During the valedictory session Dr.S.Estelitta, Director of Extension KAU distributed the awards. Dr.K.Sreenivas presented the activities of NAARM Technical Business incubator. Principal Scientist CIFT Dr.Manoj Samuel welcomed the delegates and Dr.Deepa Ananth expressed vote of thanks. 150 students from South Indian Universities attended the programme.
