22 As a part of plan project on “Start up village in live stock production”, Directorate of Entrepreneurship, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in association with Pullazhy Koleppadavu Society, organized a seminar on “Dairy Cattle comfort and Welfare – current concepts” for the selected farmers on 18.10.2016 at Pullazhy Library Hall, Thrissur district. Smt. Rajani Viju, Councillor, Pullazhi inaugurated the programme by distributing rubber mats to the farmers. Sri. Kolangattu Gopinathan, President, Pullazhy Kole Society has chaired the session. Dr. Suraj Joseph Bunglavan, Assistant Professor, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has handled the technical session.
The seminar was mainly focused on the methods to be adopted by the farmers for the comfort of cattle. The importance of hygienic practices and cleanliness maintained in the shed is discussed in the session. He explained about the physique of various types of cows, especially the unhealthy cows. ‘The close monitoring of animals will help farmers to resolve the issues related to the comfort of cows’, he added. The commonly occurred diseases and the preventive management measures were also discussed in the session.The selected farmers attended the programme and rubber mats were distributed to the beneficiaries..
