The transformation was loud and clear when Saneedh Anand, an undergraduate veterinary student, said affirmatively that he preferred to be an entrepreneur than to become an employee. He was one among the twenty aspiring students from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Wayanad, who participated in a workshop on Technology Business Incubation conducted by National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM) at Hyderabad recently. The five day workshop was conceptualised by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University with NAARM as the partnering institute. The workshop was designed with the backdrop of facilitating start-up ventures and entrepreneurship among students who nurture innovative concepts and technologies. The thrust of the workshop was on exploring the scope and framing practical approaches to technology business incubation from ideation to the market stage.
The workshop included sessions on overview of entrepreneurship in India, technology valuation, nuances of marketing, business model canvass and formulation of business plans. A problem based approach was adopted in which the student groups were asked to formulate an idea and work through it to generate a business model that culminated in a pitch presentation contest between the groups. Dr. Kalpana Shastry, Director, NAARM, gave away prizes to the winner of the contest in the valedictory function. As Dr.K. Sreenivas, Professor and Chief Executive Officer, Agri-Innovation Centre, NAARM and training co-ordinator puts it: “We are pleased to see the workshop becoming a success as more than twenty percent of the participants expressed their desire to become job providers rather than becoming job seekers”.
