10 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will organise an International Workshop and project review meeting on Cattle Welfare as part of Biotechnology and Biosciences research Council, UK funded research project of University of Bristol, UK and KVASU. The workshop will be held at Flora Auditorium Kochi from 16th- 17th December 2016. The theme of the workshop is Applying Welfare Measures to Improve Sustainability of Small holder Dairy Production in Kerala. Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of KVASU Anil.X IAS will inaugurate the programme.
The project envisages Health and Welfare Consequences of maladaptation of high producing crossbred dairy Cattle to environmental stressors in India. The objectives of this partnership are to establish standard protocols for surveillance of health, welfare and risk assessment between India and the UK, exchange skills and knowledge between Bristol and KVASU, through reciprocal training visits between early career researchers and workshops to pool expertise, Cement collaboration between Bristol and KVASU, to provide additional international platform for the leading work carried out in both centres, Establish KVASU as a Centre of Excellence for health and welfare in dairy cattle in India and establish a partnership to advance UK, India and international funding opportunities. Scientists from University of Bristol (UK), University of Western Australia (Australia), University of Connecticut (USA) will participate in the workshop. Says Principal Investigator & Director Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan Professor John Tarlton, Professor of Regenerative Medicine, Business Fellow and Impact Director, School of Veterinary Science, University of Bristol will deliver the keynote address. Dr.Kumar Venkat Narayanan, Professor of University of Connecticut will deliver a lecture on Antibiotic resistance in livestock farming-Concepts and issues. Professor Michael Lee of Rothamstead Institute, North Wyke, UK will deliver a topic on Global farm Platforms and developments. Delegates from KVASU, National Dairy Development Board, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Agriculture departments, Milk Unions, Govt of Puducherry, Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will participate in the Workshop. Cattle health and welfare issues, one health, Soil health, sustainable fodder production, antibiotic resistance, safe food production and Anti microbial resistance are the focus areas in the workshop.
