24The data bank on nutrient profile of 50 different Ayurvedic medicinal herbs, native of Wayanad District, established in the Department of Animal Nutrition, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, as part of the Plan project 2015-16, entitled, “Identification and assessment of nutritive value of herbal byproducts for feeding of livestock”, was inaugurated at 10.30 AM on 24-1-2017 (Tuesday), by the Dean, Professor (Dr.) K. Vijayakumar. The Dean in his inaugural address observed that projects such as these, which focus upon the felt needs of people of Wayanad, especially the tribals are the need of the hour. He urged the faculty members to take up and implement more such projects, which will be beneficial to the society. Dr. Biju Chacko, Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator, remarked in his welcome speech that the descriptive cards as well as the samples depicted in this data bank will be useful to the under graduate and post graduate students of the University; research scholars in other disciplines of life sciences such as Botany, Zooology and Agriculture and also the farmers and general public, who visit the College. Felicitations were offered by the Professor Academics, Dr. S. Maya and the Professor (RC) Dr. Koshi John. Dr. Dildeep. V, the Assistant Professor & Head (I/c), Dept. of Animal Nutrition, proposed the vote of thanks. The function was attended by several teaching and non teaching staff as well as students of B. V. Sc & A.H and V. H .S. E.
