17 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) will implement the second phase of “WAYANAD 2030”, an ambitious project for tribal development. As the only university located in the district KVASU considers as its duty to take up the cause of the people of Wayanad. The Directorate of Entrepreneurship will implement the project which proposes need based package of inputs to selected tribal colonies and tribal schools and create a new delivery model on sustainable development in this sector by utilizing the plan fund.
As part of the project, University has implemented various programmes for the selected tribal colonies and Model residential schools in Wayanad.The project envisages food, economic and nutritional security of the tribal population, strategies to increase enrolment ratio among students in higher education sector and socio economic development through teachers training as well as educational awareness programmes for parents.
The developmental activities will mainly focus on Education, Health, Dairying, promotion of agriculture, vermicomposting, Bio waste management training, cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants, skill development trainingsand Capacity building. The selected colonies are Chembatty tribal colony in Vythiri Panchayath and Boothanam colony in Pozhuthana grama panchayath and planning to expand further. KVASU proposes to joint collaborations with various collaborating institutions in the area of animal husbandry, agriculture and tourism and tribal development.
