KVASU to focus on animal agriculture in Thrissur- Ponnani Kole lands; Says Agriculture Minister Adv.V.S.Sunilkumar
At a time when Government is planning to develop Thrissur- Ponnani Kole lands as one of the special agricultural zones in the State based on its unique biodiversity, Veterinary University need to associate with this venture through appropriate animal components. Says Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt of Kerala Adv.V.S.Sunilkumar. Minister made this remark while inaugurating the Sale centre of Startup village project the joint venture of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pullazhi Kole Sahakarana Sangham and Thrissur Urban Development Authority on 24th March 2017 at Olari, Thrissur. The sales Centre provides Safe to eat milk, meat, egg, chicken, vegetables, rice and other products from 30 Entrepreneurs of the project. The pesticide and antibiotic residues will be periodically tested and certified at the instrumentation laboratory of KVASU at Mannuthy.
There are huge prospects for dairy, poultry, goat and duck rearing in the kole lands. Appropriate scientific interventions will facilitate to get sustainable returns from the kole lands. Startup village project will be an ideal example for integrating different systems like agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries sectors. Moreover it provides safe to eat milk, egg, chicken, meat products, vegetables and rice along with inputs for biodynamic and organic krishi. Organic farming policy of the state envisages sustainable and safe to eat farming systems. Department of Agriculture had increased the insurance compensation for the crops by 2-4 times in order to provide financial security to the farmers. Universities need to focus on farmer friendly research and technologies in order to attract more entrepreneurs and farmers to venture in to new areas of agriculture; Minister added. Minister released the Kissan rice (Massouri rice) of Pullazhi Kole Sahakarana Sangham. Mayor,Thrissur Corporation Smt.Ajitha Jayarajan presided over the function. District Panchayat President Smt.Sheela Vijayakumar launched the sale of Startup village products. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan while delivering the introductory note suggested that the project will be implemented in appropriate areas across the State.

Radhakrishnan, Councilor Smt.Rajani Viju and Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Dr.Sisilamma George offered felicitations. Kolangat Gopinathan, President, Pullazhi Kole Sahakarana Sangham welcomed the delegates and Dhanalakshmi.P.G. Secretary expressed vote of thanks. Around 200 entrepreneurs and farmers attended the programme.
