29 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s budget 2017-18 was presented in the 23rd Management Council meeting held at Kerala State Veterinary Council, Trivandrum. Board of Management Member Smt.E.S.Bijimol MLA presented the budget. Total revenue of the University as per the budget estimate for the financial year 2017-18 is Rs 180.03 Crores which was calculated assuming an income of Rs 46.14 as state plan grant and Rs 77.12 crore as state non plan grant and Rs 15 crore as RIDF assistance from NABARD, Rs 9.77 crore from ICAR and other agencies, Rs 20 crore as domestic income and Rs 12 crore from loans and advances. The total expenditure for the University is proposed as Rs 197.3 Crores .During the year 20-17-18 University will establish a new Dairy Science and Technology College at Kolahalamedu in Peerumade Assembly Constituency, Iduklki.
Modern referral Veterinary Hospital in the name of “K.R. Narayanan Memorial Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex” and Dairy and food processing institute named “Varghese Kurien Memorial Institute of Dairy and Food Technology” will be launched during this period. A food park will be established at College of Food Technology, Thumburmuzhy, A most modern pellet feed mill with capacity of 50 tonnes per day where in cattle and pig feed will be manufactured will be launched at Mannuthy, Trichur. As part of improving distribution of layer poultry and self sufficiency in the layer poultry sector in Malabar region, a hatchery and associated layer poultry farms will be established at Avian Research Station, Thiruvazhamkunnu, Palakkad District. KVASU will implement “SUMEDHA” – a programme intended or creating awareness in higher education and Entrepreneurship at School levels will be launched in Idukki, Palakkad and Wayanad Districts.Precision farming, promotion of safe to eat products, One health, Technology enable learning, start up village, popularisation of area specific mineral mixture and productivity enhancement programmes will be the focus areas during 2017 under Directorate of Entrepreneurship..Strengthening of collaboration with national and international reputed institutes in the fields of academics, research and extension will be augmented. All campuses of KVASU will be made plastic free, encouraging organic farming, making use of bio energy resources and establishing green campus drive so as to make the campus safe, secure and clean. KVASU will launch MBA in Livestock Agri Entrepreneurship and Poultry Business management. Post graduate programmes will be started in Dairy Science and Technology to bridge the gap in teaching and research manpower. Educational museum and infotainment for students on animal disease conditions and other related areas will be established. Board of Management members C.K.Saseendran MLA presided over the function. O.R.Kelu, MLA, Vice Chancellor Anil Xavier IAS, Registrar Dr.Joseph Mathew and senior officers attended the programme.
