30 Recent murder of an Indian student Anuj Bidve, Post graduate student of Microelectronics at Lancaster University has created apprehension among Indian students and parents about the safety of UK education. Of the total number of students studying abroad, more than 75 percent prefer UK as the safe destination. Among international students in order to augment their business and marketing skills, MBA programme is getting more popularity now a days. UK is the undisputed leader in MBA programme in Europe and the World leader in terms of innovation in MBA provision. Moreover graduate programmes can be completed from UK within a period of 12 months. 90 percent of the overseas education aspiring students prefer to join for MBA from UK since they can complete the programme within one year thus save a huge sum of tuition fee and living expenses. More number of professionals including engineering graduates are interested to pursue MBA from UK. In USA duration of the course is nearly 18 months. So educational cost for MBA programme in UK is much cheaper than USA. UK institutions excel in reputation, best faculty and specialization.
Most of the Indian students prefer to join for UK education programmes during the falls season. After completing IELTS examination they start applying for the courses in selected Universities or approach overseas education consultancy services from January 2012 onwards. This tragic incident will surely persuade some of the Indian students and parents to disassociate from UK education institutions during this season. Any type of atrocity or attack on Indian students must be viewed very seriously. It is high time that Government of India must monitor the living and educational situations of Indian Students through starting a separate National centre for overseas education monitoring. Moreover most of the UK institutions are getting more income from International students than native UK students. India is emerging as one of the best market for UK education centers. Taking in to account the gravity of the situation, British council offices in India can monitor the status of Indian students in UK.
Extending all possible help to the bereaved family of Bidve, who was shot dead in Manchester on December 26, the consulate General of India in Birmingham and the Indian High Commission said that they were "deeply" saddened at the "unfortunate" and tragic killing. "Following this unfortunate incident, senior officials from the Consulate General of India, Birmingham have been in touch with the Greater Manchester Police authorities and also the bereaved family members in Pune. Bidve was with nine other Indian students when he was shot by two white men after a short conversation.
