12Two weeks refresher training course on "Newer perspectives in dairy cattle farming for augmenting productivity" was conducted from 27th April to 10th May, 2017 at Base Farm, Kolahalamedu for Assistant Professors / Scientists of KVASU. A total of six Assistant Professors from various stations of University participated in refresher course. Participants were updated about recent trends and innovations in dairy cattle production and management. Various scientific sessions were conducted in topics such as cattle biodiversity, selection of breeds suited to farming systems, interpersonal skills, human resource management, farm performance assessment, herd reproductive management, precision feeding, fodder production and management, innovations in dairy cattle feeding, climate change adaptation in livestock farming, modern trends in animal housing, herd health management programme, crisis management strategies during disease outbreak, value addition of milk, dairy entrepreneurship and hoof health management. Visit to a range of local dairy farms including Kurushumala Dairy Farm and hi-tech bull mother farm of KLDB was also organised during the programme. The training was jointly organized by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship, KVASU and the Base Farm, Kolahalamedu.
