WILDLIFE TREKKING CAMP
A one day trekking camp was organized by Loris Nature Club, CVAS Mannuthy to Peechi Wildlife Sanctuary on 8th December,2018. It was a wondrous journey through the Peechi forest from Jandamukku to Ollakkara. 18 students under the leadership of C. M. Mahir (President Loris Nature Club) and Alaka Suresh (Secretary Loris Nature Club) participated in the camp and were accompanied by Dr N S Sunilkumar(Assistant Professor, Anatomy Dept. and Staff Advisor, Loris Nature Club) and Dr K Jasmine Rani (Assistant Professor, Animal Nutrition Dept.).
The group gathered in the CVAS, Mannuthy campus at around 7.15 AM and set off together in the college bus from campus at 7.20 AM. Reached Peechi by 8.15 AM, after which Mr Satheesh, Section Officer, Department of forest and wildlife delivered a brief introductory class. By 8.25 the group guided by two staff from forest and wild life department started trekking from Jandamukku, and it was a glorious beginning. It was a good experience to see a spotted deer drinking water from a brook flowing elegantly. Halted for breakfast after walking some steps from Jandamukku.
There was a gentle breeze creating the single sound of rustling leaves. The forest with trees making canopies, small streams that quenched thirst etc. gave a pleasing sensation. The pugmarks ,Elephant dungs, Bear foot prints etc. were seen on the way that arouse a mixed feeling to see the animal but with a slight fear.
The trekking was hard and challenging , walking approximately 10 kms through the forest and by around 1.00 PM, reached the destination. It was a feast for the eyes in seeing the mighty waterfalls with water spraying all around. By 2.30 PM the group started walking from Mampara Waterfalls to Ollakara Station and reached there by 5PM. By around 5.30PM reached campus in the College bus.
Overall, the trekking became a chain of fabulous memories with lots of fun. The participants got enough adventure, joy and refreshment. One of the student representative expressed their gratitude to the officials of the Loris Nature Club, Department of Forest and Wildlife and the faculty accompanied them. All above Dr C Latha, Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy was specially thanked for granting the permission for such a wonderful camp.
