11Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Kerala State Veterinary Council are jointly organizing a National Seminar on One Health Initiative in addressing Food Safety Challenges on 16th and 17th February, 2012 at Hotel Dass Continental, Thrissur. Around 250 Scientists including Veterinary and medical professionals, ecologists, wild life biologists, epidemiologists microbiologists, biotechnologists, environmentalists and food technologists will participate in the National Seminar.
‘One Health concept’ is a worldwide strategy for expanding interdisciplinary collaborations and communications in all aspects of health care. One Health addresses health at the interface of human-, animal- and environmental health and ties the knot to food safety and security. Food safety and health are inter-linked and the recent crisis associated with food security and safety has created unprecedented attention to the global food systems. Food borne diseases due to microbial pathogens, biotoxins and chemical contaminants in food represent serious threats to the health of thousands of millions of people. The “farm to fork” approach to food safety embraces all elements which may have an impact on the safety of food at every step of the food chain.
There will be different sessions on one Health, Zoonosis, food Safety, Environment and Processed Food Technology in the Seminar. Eminent Scientists from Kerala Health University, Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, National Institute of Communicable diseases, Indian Veterinary Research Institute and other premier institutes will present lead paper in the two day Seminar. Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala Sri. K.P.Mohanan will inaugurate the National seminar on 16th Feb 2012 at 10 AM. Minister will distribute Media Awards and National Entrepreneurship and Quality assurance Award. Sri. M.P. Vincent MLA will release the Compendium. Vice Chancellor KVASU Sri. K.Jayakumar IAS will address the Gathering.
