KVASU presented with the Chancellors Award for Best Emerging Young University for the second consecutive year
Hon’ble Governor Justice (Retd). P. Sadasivam presented the 4th Chancellors Award to MG University and 2nd Chancellors Award for Best Emerging Young University to KVASU. It was a special occasion due to the fact that both these Universities were receiving the award for the second consecutive time. The Chancellor congratulated the entire Academic and non- academic members of both the Universities for achieving this award and maintaining high standards. He also appreciated the Vice Chancellors of both Universities. The award of Rs. 5 Crore was instituted in 2014, with a vision to bring a healthy competition among the universities to improve the quality of higher education. In 2017, a separate award of Rs.1Crore was instituted for Best Young Emerging University, to foster healthy competition among the newly formed universities and KVASU has received the Chancellor’s award in 2017 and 2018. Govt. entrusted the Kerala State Higher Education Council to identify the committee (9 members) chaired by Professor C.N.R Rao of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advance Scientific Research, Bangalore.
Honourable Governor stressed the need to improve the capability of in-house research and to enhance economic development. He also opined that the Acts and Statutes in Kerala are providing different tenure for Vice Chancellors, which has to be brought to uniformity in all universities to upgrade the efficiency and quality of higher education sector. He said that the focus of research should be aimed at solving people’s problem and that today’s education should decide tomorrow’s economy.
Hon. Minister for higher education Sri. K.T. Jaleel presided over the function and Dr. Usha Titus, Principal Secretary, Higher Education welcomed the gathering. Sri. Devendra Kumar Singh, Vice Chancellor, KVASU received the award which consisted of an amount of Rs. One crore and a citation from the Chancellor.
