23The programme “ICAR Scheduled Caste- Sub Plan 20-21 on “Establishment of Goat Nursery and Satellite goat farm in Schedule Caste clusters of Wayanad, Kerala” was inaugurated by Prof (Dr). M.R. Saseendranath, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Wayanad, Kerala, on 16th March, 2021 at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayand, Kerala. The inaugural function was presided by Prof.(Dr).Sudheer Babu K, Registrar, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Wayanad, Kerala. The ICAR project principal investigator Dr.S.Senthil Murugan, Assistant Professor, CVAS, Pookode explained the main objective of this project to promote Scheduled Caste beneficiary’s economic development through cluster-oriented satellite goat farm by providing adult female and bucks of Malabari breed to the Schedule caste families living below the poverty line.
The project conceived the idea on need based human resource development, and 5 days training and capacity building program on Goat farming for improving livelihood security of Scheduled Caste Clusters of Wayanad, Kerala was inaugurated by Dr.Winny Joseph, District Animal Husbandry Officer, Kalpetta, Wayanad.
In addition, information on participants list from Scheduled Caste clusters of Padinjarathara, Kalpetta municipality (Perunthatta), Kalpetta municipality (Kavumannam), Vythiri, Vengapally, Thariode, Mutill in Kalpetta Scheduled Caste block was released by Shri. Baburaj, Kalpetta Scheduled Caste block officer and list was received by Dr.N.Ashok, Director of Academics and Research, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode. Further, Shri. Baburaj explained about government programmes and policies for extended to livelihood security of Scheduled caste population in Kerala very specific to Wayanad district.
Prof (Dr). M.R. Saseendranath, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, expressed that this project will ensures livelihood security and proof for commitment of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University for poorest of the poor in the society.
Dr. N. Ashok, Director of Academics and Research, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode who is nodal officer for ICAR SC SP 2020-21 clarified that the success and tangible output of this project will fetches further financial support for the SC clusters from various funding agencies.
Dr.Winny Joseph, District Animal Husbandry Officer, assured the full hearted support of Animal Husbandry Department for success of project in any nature for the benefit of the Scheduled caste clusters and other families in below poverty line.
Dr.Koshy John, Dean College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode welcome all the dignitaries and participants for this inaugural function. The programme was ended with vote of thanks, proposed by Dr.K.C. Bipin Co-principal investigator of this project.
