02 Workshop on Current Concepts in the Treatment and Control of Parasitic diseases held at KSVC, Trivandrum on 28th April 2012. It was jointly organized by Kerala State Veterinary Council and Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU. Dr.N. N. Sasi Registrar of Kerala State Veterinary Council delivered the keynote address. He emphasized the need for developing a protocol for deworming livestock for the state which needs to be adhered for health and food security. Moreover he mentioned about the need for developing distance learning courses for field Veterinarians including Diploma programmes in collaborations with KVASU and other institutions like IGNOU and TANUVAS.
Professor S.Ramkumar Director of Entrepreneurship of KVASU inaugurated the workshop. In his inaugural address he stated the importance of mediation between the scientific community, practicing Veterinarians and farmers at large. This interface between the experts of the disciplines of Veterinary Parasitology and the practicing Veterinarians is a step towards this direction. He hoped that with the present linkage with Kerala State Veterinary Council, more interfaces of subject experts with Veterinarians can be accomplished for the welfare of the farming community in the state.
There was a breakaway brain storming session organized for the Veterinarians which was led by the faculty members of Veterinary Parasitology of KVASU. Dr. S.Prathaban, Director of Clinics of TANUVAS delivered a talk on Parasite control strategies in Pets and Dr.T.J.Harikrishnan, Profesor & Head, Department of Parasitology, VCRI, Namakkal of TANUVAS delivered a talk on Current concepts in the Control of Arthropod Parasites. 30 Veterinarians from 14 Districts of the state participated in the one day Workshop. Registrar KSVC Dr.N.N.Sasi gave away the Certificates. Dr.Lucy Sabu, Organizing Secretary welcomed the gathering and Dr.H.Shameem expressed vote of thanks.
