29The Dairy Extension Training Programme ‘Samrudhi’as stipulated in the B.Tech (DSc. & Tech.) curriculum was organized by the final year students (2008 batch) of CDST with the support and collaboration from various Governmental, Public Sector, NGOs, and Co-operative organizations actively involved in dairy sector in Palakkad district from 19th to 26th April 2012. It proved the right opportunity for them to ‘learn, de-learn and re-learn’ many things that they have assimilated through classroom learning.
The programme started on 19th April, 10.30 am at the Akathethara Milk Co-operative Society. Dr.P.I. Geevarghese, Professor and Head was the Officer in charge of the programme and Sri G R Jayadevan and Sri R. Rejeesh, faculty members of CDST co-ordinated the whole activities scheduled in the Extension Training Programme. As part of the programme, the team visited various dairy farms situated across the length and breadth of the district, Milma Palakkad dairy, Milma Cattle Feed Plant at Malampuzha, KLDB Dhoni farm, Society for Rural Improvement, an NGO based at Kollengode, Dairy Extension Service Units under the Department of Dairy Development and Dairy Co-operative societies. The students interacted with Dr. C.K. Thomas, Retired Professor of Veterinary College Mannuthy. The trainees visited farms and interacted with many successful dairy farmers like Mrs. Sasikala, Mr. Skaria Pillai, and Mr. Anil who all raised the grandeur of Palakkad district in the dairy map of Kerala. Students organized various activities like Quality Awareness Programme for the farmer friends at Kollengode, Farmers’ Contact Programme at Pirayiri, Palakkad etc. They could also arrange a ‘Dairy Quiz’ competition for farmers at the Pirayiri Dairy Co-operative Society in a remarkable manner on the final day of the programme (26th April, 2012).
The eight day long programme came to a close on 26th April2012 with a valedictory function arranged at the KLDB Dhoni farm auditorium. Dr. P.I. Geevarghese welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Rajendrakumar, Dean CDST offered presidential address. Dr. P. Sudheerbabu, HOD-Dairy Engg, Sri. Judy. K. George, Manager (FD) and Dr. Balu, Asst. Manager (AH), KLDB Dhoni farm offered felicitations. Dr. R. Rajendrakumar, Dean CDST handed over a memento of ‘Samrudhi’ to Dr. C.K. Thomas during the function. Muhammed Nawas, Class Representative, 2008 Batch expressed vote of thanks.
