12Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Dr.B.Ashok IAS condoled the death of Dr Verghese Kurien, the Father of India’s ‘White Revolution’. Condoling the sad demise of Dr.Kurien, Vice Chancellor described him as an icon of co-operative movement and dairy industry. Dr.Kurien worked for farmers in the nonprofit sector and made dairying a highly competitive industry using modern technologies, management principles and marketing tools. He engineered the White revolution and made India the largest milk producer of the world. Dr.Kurien is recognised as the man behind the success of the Amul brand. Dr.Kurien’s greatest contribution was to give a position of pre-eminence to the farmers interests rather than those of middlemen,Moreover he has made enormous contributions to the fields of agriculture, rural development and dairying. Dr.Kurien won several awards for his efforts during his lifetime. He was conferred with Padma Vibhushan in 1999, Padma Bhushan in 1966, Padma Shri in 1965 and Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1963.
India lost an innovative manager and measures will be taken to start a Dairy Technology and Food Science Institute at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in memory of Late Dr.Verghese Kurien. Vice Chancellor added
