12Organic agriculture depends to a greater extent on biological processes to recycle nutrients in soil than do other forms of agriculture; says Winthrop Professor Lynette Abbott of Institute of Agriculture, School of Earth and Environment of The University of Western Australia while she was addressing the faculty and researchers of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy Campus on 11th September 2012. In organinc farming Nutrient inputs are capped and Soil biological processes are supported. Organic farming for sustained fodder production, Organic nutrients for organic pastures, Soil carbon sequestration in perennial grass pastures and Organic agriculture as a model for understanding soil fertility are some of the research priorities in this sector. Since livestock is an integral component of organic farming practices, advances in this sector will be an emerging area of research for Veterinary Science graduates. Lynette added. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.S.Ramkumar welcomed and introduced Professor Lynette Abbot. Dr.K.P.Sreekumar, Professor, International co-operation expressed vote of thanks.
