25The second workshop jointly organized by University of Edinburgh, British council and Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences under Knowledge economy partnership on ‘Production animal Health and Welfare’ is inaugurated on 24th September,2012 at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayanad. Edinburgh University which collaborates extensively around the world is known for its cutting edge technology and research in various fields including Veterinary medicine. The five day international workshop is being funded by knowledge economy partnership grant from the British council and is aimed at capacity building in Animal welfare science and professional development through problem based learning.
Dr.Leo Joseph, Dean, CVAS, Pookode presided over the function. Director, Entrepreneurship, Prof.S.Ramkumar inaugurated the workshop.. He emphasized the importance of the right way of knowledge transfer and its relevance in the changing social scenario. Project Coordinator of the international workshop Prof. Natalie Waran and Director of Jeanne Marchig international centre for animal welfare education operating under the Royal Dick School of Veterinary studies of University of Edinburg has emphasized the need for enhancing global awareness on animal welfare issues. She is accompanied by Dr.Neil Sargison, Senior lecturer of large animal Practice in the Royal Dick school of Veterinary Sciences. Dr.Natlie in her introductory session has briefed the importance of animal welfare and assessment of a stress free environment for the animals. Seventeen faculty members from production oriented departments of KVASU are participating in the workshop. Professor International co-operation Professor K.P.Sreekumar welcomed the gathering and Dr.Bindu. K.A expressed vote of thanks. Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr.B.Ashok IAS will address the gathering and inaugurate the valedictory session on 28th September 2012.
