18 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment will jointly explore research potential in Agriculture and allied fields Says Sri. K.P.Mohanan, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala. Minister was addressing the delegates during the plenary session of the Work shop on KVASU-KSCTE held at Hotel Mascot on 16th October 2012. During the workshop Minister released the book on Jyothis for Teachers training programme- Quality enabled Teachng-The confident way. The workshop was organized jointly by Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Kerala State Science Technology and Environment to identify relevant areas of research in livestock and allied sector in the state. Chairman, KSCSTE Dr.V.N.Rajasekharan Pillai inaugurated the workshop. He opined that this joint venture will help to carry science and technology to the doorsteps.
Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr.B.Ashok IAS delivered the keynote address on opportunities of Collaboration between KVASU and KSCSTE. Vice chancellor during the keynote address suggested that there is immense potential for research in the areas of livestock development in the country. Biotechnology tools should be used for productivity enhancement, vaccine production and diagnosis of diseases. Dr.S.Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship presented a topic on Livestock sector-Prospects and challenges. Dr.A.Jalaludeen, Director, Academics and Research, KVASU presented a topic on research priorities of KVASU. 20 Scientists from KSCSTE and KVASU participated in the discussion. Former Vice Chancellor Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Dr.Balraman, Dr.Prakash of KSCSTE and Registrar KVASU Dr.K.P.Sreekumar were the few dignitaries who participated in the one day worksho-p.
During the workshop four broad areas of research were identified which include Biotechnology, Biomedical research, climatology and informatics. Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok suggested that advances in Biotechnology, Biomedical research, adaptive and mitigatory measures in Climatology, reduction of stress in animal houses and application of informatics for livestock development are the immediate priorities of research in the country.
