12 Government will implement projects in Agriculture and Dairying to make Kerala an organic State; Says Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala Sri. K.P.Mohanan. Minister was inaugurating the valedictory function of Wayand 2030 on 10th November 2012, a two day workshop organized by Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU held at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode campus from 9th to 10th November 2012 to prepare a perspective plan for comprehensive development of the Wayanad district.
Sikkim will become the first organic state in the country by 2013. Kerala is planning to emulate this success from Sikkim. Government will implement projects like Govardhan and other food security projects aimed at improving milk production in the state so as to meet the emerging challenges. Food security will be achieved only through famer’s safety; while promoting organic farming in the state, rearing of local cattle suited to our climatic conditions will be given importance. As part of Govardhan project, minimum of 100 milch cows will be distributed in each Grama Panchayat. Government will emphasis market led production programme in Agriculture and allied sectors since our production programmes were production oriented in nature. To make the sector economically viable, Government will make all efforts to procure Agriculture produce through Krishibhavans by a remunerative pricing mechanism. Research stations of Kerala Agricultural and Veterinary Universities will be strengthened to meet the challenges in production, processing, value addition and marketing of agriculture and livestock products in the state. Minister added.
Hon’ble MP Sri. M.I.Shanavas presided over the function. MP assured all helps from Government of India in making KVASU a world class university. KVASU’s efforts for a comprehensive development of Wayanad district will be one of the unique ventures in this regard.MP added. Vice Chancellor, KVASU Dr.B.AShok IAS welcomed the gathering. During the introductory speech Vice chancellor told that a World class library and informatics complex will be established at Pookode campus. This will use ICT based connectivity with all the schools of Waynad district to meet the increasing challenges of knowledge management in the district. KVASU will soon formulate career oriented Diploma, Graduate and certificate courses to meet the increasing demands of tribal population.
Hon’ble Minister for Scheduled Tribes and Youth welfare Kum. Jayalakshmi inaugurated the Wayanad 2030 workshop held at KVASU Pookode campus on 10th November 2012. Minister lauded the efforts of KVASU in preparing a vision document for comprehensive development of Wayanad. Government will make all efforts to strengthen development activities in Agriculture, livestock sector, education, Tribal development, health and Tourism. NGOs participation will be effectively utilized for making Wayanad a model district in the country.
Theme wise discussions were organized in which the participants expressed their views; each thematic discussion had a keynote address and lead paper. Sri. T.Madhava Menon (Retd IAS), Sri. Sajeev (District Planning Officer), Sri, K.T.Thomas of Malabar milk Union, Prakash, Dairy development department, Sri, Vikraman (Agriculture Dept), Dr.Jayesh (Animal Husbandry Dept) Dr.Anilkumar (MSSRF), Sri. Vancheeswaran (Tourism), Smt. Santhy (Navodaya Vidyalaya), Ramesh (Conservator of Forests), Abbas Ali (DIET), Narayanan Kutty (KVK, Ambalavayal), Sri. Hemarajan (Tribal Development) presented key papers during the group discussions. Dr.Shynu, Dr.Manju Sasidharan, Dr.Dinesh, Dr. Bindya, Dr.Leeba Chacko, Dr.Joseph Mathew, Dr.Sajith Purushothaman, Dr.Gireesh, Dr.John Abraham and Dr.Anees were among the few faculty members who moderated the different sessions of the Workshop. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.S.Ramkumar presented the blue print prepared as part of Wayanad 2030. Mr.Saleem Memena, President, Kalpetta, Block Panchayat, Chairman, Kalpetta Municipality and Smt. Devaki Teacher, Vice President Wayanad District Panchayat were among the few local body representatives who felicitated the function. Dr.K.P.Sreekumar, Registrar, KVASU expressed vote of thanks.
