17Higher education sector in Agriculture has enormous prospects and is facing more challenges now a days; Says Professor Kadambot Siddique, Associate Dean and Director of Institute of Agriculture of University of Western Australia, Perth. Professor Siddique was made this remark while delivering a talk for faculty and students of KVASU at CVAS, Mannuthy on 17th December 2012. Within the BRIC countries, enrolment rate for higher education and Tertiary education is less in India.Gross enrolment rate for Tertiary education in India is nearly 12 percent whereas in China it is 25 percent. India need to focus more on Higher education; Says Professor Siddique.We need to promote diversity of employment opportunities.Food production, distribution, value addition and commodity marketing in Agriculture and allied sectors will generate more employment. Industry participation, reduction of urban rural gap in education,developing co- teaching education with graduate programmes, smart system of deliveries linking cities and rural environments, need for world wide networking and common funded scholarships for higher education are the immediate challenges in higher education sector within the country and abroad. PICSE- National Pimary Industry Centre for Science Education is a unique project in Australia to promote science education among young students. Siddique added. Earlier Director, Academics and Research Dr.A.Jalaludeen inaugurated the workshop on Higher education in Agriculture- Prospects and Challenges. Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok addressed the gathering and delivered keynote address. Registrar Dr.K.P.Sreekumar introduced Professor Siddique. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.S.Ramkumar offered felicitations. Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy Dr.H.Subramanian welcome the gathering and Dr.S.Maya expressed vote of thanks. Around 100 faculty members and students attended the half day workshop.
