18Vice Chancellor KVASU , Dr B Ashok was an invited speaker in the second international conference on Veterinary education held at Lyon between 13th and 15th May 2011. He spoke on 14th to the delegates on standardization issues in Indian veterinary education. The presentation evoked good interest with queries for active academic partnerships from the Universities of Guelph (Canada), Edinburgh, Hongkong and Czechoslovakia. The idea of moving towards 'day one competencies' for veterinary graduates across the world and educating them on ' one health concept' which must wed developments in health and animal health education in the context of transboundary diseases was highlighted.
On the sidelines of the conference, he spoke to the Director General of OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) Dr Bernard Vallat, Deans and Provosts of Lyon, Hongkong, Guelph, Edinburgh and Ontario Schools/Universities. Opportunities for bilateral academic collaborations were explored and it was noticed that there was great interest in taking the deliberations forward. The conference concluded with a dinner in honor of the delegates in Paul Becuse restaurant in Lyon, France. Senior French officers and delegates attended.
