16 KVASU signed MOU with Kottakkal Aryvaidyasala on 16th January 2013. A tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) in this regard was signed between Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, Kerala Ayurvedic studies and research society, Kottakkal and Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier’s Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal for academic and research co-operation on16th January 2013. Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sri. K.P.Mohanan and Hon’ble Minister for Health Sri.V.S.Sivakumar were the Chief Guest during the function. Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr.B.Ashok, Registrar Dr.K.P.Sreekumar, Director of Academics and Research Dr.A.Jalaludeen and CEO, Kerala Ayurvedic studies and research society, Kottakkal Sri. P.T. Balakrishna Kurup attended the function.
The MoU will help to promote mutually beneficial academic and research programmes for taking up studies on Ayurvedic formulations and for developing new formulations based on Ayurvedic principles and practices for the treatment of Animal diseases.
Major objectives of the Academic and Research Co-operation envisage documentation, research, validation, conducting clinical trials and to carry out mutually beneficial research in the areas of Ethno pharmacology.
1. Documentation: To jointly collate and document available information on folklore medicine and traditional medicine and to share the acquired knowledge related to their application in animal health care.
2. Research:
a. To facilitate the exchange of Post Graduate Students for the purpose of Education and /or Research in Ethno Pharmacology.
b. To provide research facilities to research scholars and to carry out mutually beneficial research.
c. To jointly propose and engage in research or training programmes and to carry out extension activities among farmers.
d. To run PG Diploma Course in Ethno Pharmacology in the University with appropriate support from Ayurveda College and Arya Vaidya Sala.
3. To carry out clinical trials of Ayurvedic preparations against important diseases of Livestock, at the University.
4. To engage in pilot level production of herbal formulations and its quality control exclusively for the use of veterinary health care.
5. To utilize unused land at University campuses to propagate medicinal plants of use to Arya Vaidya Sala / Ayurvedic Industry.
Moreover through this MOU, KVASU and the Ayurveda College will to help identify and invite faculty members from the other institutions to participate in research and development programmes sponsored by external funding agencies. University and the Ayurveda College shall exchange information on research and educational programmes in Ethno Pharmacology and Herbal Medicine and other literature relevant to their educational and research programmes and will explore the ways to share infrastructural facilities while respecting each other’s intellectual property rights. In order to accomplish the above mentioned objectives, each Institution shall appoint one member of its teaching / research faculty to co-ordinate the programme on its behalf. Further, a co-ordination committee consisting of (a) the Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode or his / her nominee, (b) the Chief Executive Officer of Kerala Ayurvedic Studies and Research Society, Kottakkal or his / her nominee and (c) the Chief Superintendent & Additional Chief Physician, Arya Vaidya Sala Hospital and Research Centre on behalf of the Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal or his / her nominee, will periodically review and identify areas to strengthen co – operation between the three Institutions.
